Sewing tutorial: the zipped pouch

Sew a zippered pouch

To create a fabric zippered pouch, you need:
a sewing machine
a special zipper foot
30 cm of fabric
a tape measure
pins
a fabric chalk
a 30 cm long zipper
a spool of thread
a pair of scissors
a square

The different steps to follow for this achievement

1. Fold the fabric in 2. Using the square and chalk, draw a rectangle 32 cm long and 22 cm wide. Cut the 2 thicknesses of fabric on the lines at the same time.

2. Place the 2 rectangles of fabric on the right side. Pin the zipper on one rectangle. The fabric is on the right side and the zipper on the wrong side. Take the second rectangle of fabric and pin the zipper on the edge as well. The 2 rectangles of fabric must be well aligned and the pins positioned approximately every 5 cm.

3. Change the sewing machine foot to the special zipper foot. Open the zipper and sew the first side. To finish the side, close the zipper. To do this, lower the needle into the fabric, raise the foot to pivot the fabric while closing and reposition yourself to finish the last stitches. Repeat the operation on the second side of the zipper.

4. Change the sewing machine foot. Topstitch along the zipper on both sides.

5. Close the pocket by placing the fabric right side against right side. Place the fabric edge to edge and pin the 3 sides, approximately every 5 cm. Sewing tip: remember to open the pocket so that you can turn the pocket inside out once the sewing is finished.

6. Sew the 3 sides. Be careful to take the fabric of the zipper into the seam.

7. Cut the threads. Cut the corners of the pouch to avoid having too much material when the pouch is turned inside out.

8. Turn the pouch over. Use the scissors to form the corners by pushing the fabric. Close the zipper, and your zipped pouch is finished. Very simple and very quick to make, you can also personalize your pouch by changing the fabric or the size of the pouch.
