Sewing tutorial: the quilted belt
The #MaRobeAtelierCharlotteAuzou customizable patterns allow you to sew fitted and high-waisted dresses or jumpsuits. I like to add a belt to further accentuate the waist and give rhythm to the silhouette. After the tie belt and the elastic belt , today I offer you a tutorial for sewing a quilted belt with two rings.
Supplies
• a strip of your fabric, here Linen Ochre Atelier Brunette
• two D-rings of the width of your choice, here 40 mm
• iron- on fleece
steps
1/ Start by measuring the width of your rings, here it is 40 millimeters.
2/ Cut a strip from your fabric, following the straight grain.
Its height corresponds to the width of the rings x 2 + 2 cm of margins, here 10 cm. Its length corresponds to your waist size + 35 cm. For example, 105 cm for a waist size of 70 cm.
Fold the strip right side to right side lengthwise.
3/ Cut a strip of iron-on fleece. Its length is the same as the fabric strip, its height corresponds to the width of the rings, i.e. 4 cm for our example. Iron the strip of iron-on fleece onto the reverse side of the fabric strip, on one side only, the edge aligned with the fold.
4/ Sew with a straight stitch 1 cm from the raw edges of the belt. The fleece is not caught in this seam in order to avoid excess thickness.
5/ One end of the belt remains open, the other ends at a bevel.
6/ Cut the seam allowances and trim the corners.
7/ Turn the belt right side out. To do this, use a non-blunt, pointed object like this wooden knitting needle. Start by inserting the beveled end of the belt inside and push until the belt is right side out. Iron.
8/ Sew parallel lines with a straight stitch to form the quilting of the belt.
9/ Slide the belt into the two rings and form two consecutive folds, 1 cm then 3 cm. Sew as close as possible to the fold.
10/ Stitch between the 2 rings to prevent them from overlapping once the belt is tied.
11/ Tie your belt.
