Sew a loose top or dress with the Yoke pattern

This is one of the patterns from the new collection: the Yoke top pattern. It is fitted at the waist with a lined belt, designed to be paired with bottom pieces to create a dress or jumpsuit. However, it can also be sewn on its own as a top or a loose-fitting dress—super comfortable to wear. In this article, I explain how to easily modify the pattern!

The pattern

To make these adjustments, simply lengthen the front and back pieces. The yoke remains unchanged, and the belt pieces do not need to be cut.

To sew the top, I added 20 cm to these pieces at the center back, center front, and side seams, starting from the waistline corresponding to my height. For the dress version, I added 54 cm.

And that’s it! The pattern has enough ease in the bust to accommodate the hips without needing to widen the pieces.

The finishes

The advantage of this hack is that the invisible zipper in the back can be omitted. It is replaced with an open seam that continues into a slit at the yoke, as explained in the pattern instructions.

The creations

To show how you can personalize this hack, I made two versions: a white top with a broderie anglaise yoke, and a Liberty dress with XXL balloon sleeves. The belt is made using this tutorial available on the blog.
