The Bias Cut Skirt

In October, I suggest you sew together the 1/4 Circle Skirt and I share some information to adapt the pattern and cut it on the bias.
The pattern provides in the instruction booklet a classic cut with the fold with the straight grain in the middle front and back. This cut has the advantage of being easier to implement, of being less disruptive to patterned fabrics, but also of being less greedy in fabric. As for the bias cut, it will bring a very beautiful fluidity to the skirt and will elegantly hug the hips.
In this article, I will share with you throughout the month of October tips for cutting your skirt on the bias.

The patterns

The patterns to sew this skirt are the 1/4 circle skirt and the bonus Just the bottom .
As a reminder, these are customizable patterns, you need at least 2 patterns to obtain a complete creation (and all the instructions too 😉). The 1/4 circle skirt can therefore be sewn as a dress with the top patterns , and as a skirt thanks to the free Juste le Bas belt pattern .
During the month of October, the 1/4 circle skirt pattern is -20%.*

Fabric Advice

The most important thing for this skirt is to choose a fabric that is soft, flowing and stretches on the bias. It should be light or medium weight. So I recommend looking for viscose, silk or synthetic crepes, twills and twills, silk or polyester satins, viscose linens or Tencel...

The cut

In the video below I explain the technique for changing the cutting direction in your 1/4 circle skirt.

The cutting layout

Skirt Cutting Plan on the Bias
The fabric is not folded. It is 140 cm wide. The new cutting plan for your 1/4 circle skirt is as follows. Here the choice is made for a zip in the side seam, hence the back in one piece. For a zip in the middle of the back, simply position the back pieces side by side, making sure to cut them symmetrically.

The yardage

Here are the new fabric consumptions for the 1/4 circle skirt if you opt for a bias cut (tall height, size 56). The yardages may be slightly lower for other sizes and heights.
• SHORT 150 cm of fabric in 140 cm width
• MIDI 220 cm of fabric in 140 cm width
• LONG 270 cm of fabric in 140 cm width
• CEREMONY WITH OR WITHOUT TRAINE 300 cm of fabric in 140 cm width * for this length, prefer a fabric of 150 cm width

My skirt

Sewn in washed viscose linen from Stragier , it is very pleasant and comfortable to wear.
